Strange Paths is four-movement work for piano trio. The sound-world and textures are in part inspired by memories from my childhood, both as a young child in Switzerland and later as a young adult in England. I can recall standing on the shores of Lake Lucerne, watching dark and brooding storm clouds draw in over the fir-lined peaks of the Alps, and this provided the visual inspiration for the first movement, Through Dark Mountains.
The second movement, Branches Like Clawing Fingers, is more directly taken from winter nights, walking home alone in the dark, with frightful trees looming overhead, their branches seeming to reach out toward me.
The third movement, A Glen of Distant Sorrow, is still being worked on; the fourth movement is not yet started and as of March 2026 untitled.
