Disquietude

Movements

I. Anxiety
II. Disquiet
III. Panic

Disquietude is an oboe sonata I wrote early in my graduate career for oboist Nathaniel Moore. Although I recognize it as somewhat unidiomatic now, I still think it presents a good representation of my style’s evolution.

Centered around feelings of anxiety and unease, the goal was to build a sense of harmony that fails to ever truly resolve; the odd ‘wrong’ note, or unexpected key change, were central to the emotional impact of the work.

It was premiered at a Rutgers concert in late 2024.
